I saw your photos earlier, and I am with Halg... your transmission crossmember is not right... clean, it should look like what Halg posted... dirty, it should look like this :D

As to posting the photos...

In the post a reply screen you have a button that says img

To post the photos all you have to do is put the link to the photo between those codes (eliminate the " from the following )

If you hit something while driving it would be twisted back, and ripped the studs out of the floor pans. That damage resulted from the car being supported or jacked up by that bracket. Place a jack under the flat spot on the trans just before the guibo and remove that bracket before you over stress or tear the rubber.

Let me know if you need another one, I got a couple.

Thanks to everyone. No wonder it was such a struggle changing the transmission mount! Heh, the dents were symmetrical! I thought it was designed that way! Ok, so my IQ is 2 above plant life.

The other cross-member support behind the tranny mount seems to be mounted upside down, also.

The rubber area on the mount looks different. There is something hanging down there. I cant believe that a replacement part would be made to hang down 2" lower than the mount bracket? Anyone seen this before/

I saw that as well but thought it was either the rubber mount broken or stretched beyond normal...

Wow! That is where the bridge for the drive shaft goes...

Y'all are great detectives. Here's my confession. The damage to the crossmember was the result of one of two events or maybe both. First, several months ago my drive shaft separated from the differential and I had to drive about a block before I could pull over. I had it towed home and after inspection (by a novice, me) I just bolted it back up and away I drove. Second, as Matt diagnosed, I've been jacking the front end up using the transmission mount crossmember! There, I feel a lot better! Now, am I missing some sort of a bridge?

Put your jack under the main crossmember, the one under the engine oil pan. Use a block of wood to help spread out the load. This is the only 'bridge' that you should use for jacking purposes.

Well, maybe I used the wrong choice of words and made a mistake. I thought I was looking at the third bracket...

Pardon the rust, here is a photo of the area:

Image

Your transmission mount bracket (1) needs to be replaced. The second bracket (2). The one upside down, needs to be installed correctly. There is a third one (3) that has the drive shaft support (the one that holds a big bearing).
