Smog stuff cleanup and removal
desmogging
Living in CT, where there are no inspections for cars past age 25, my 78 has been purified.

I think my air pump holes are taken care of. I figured out what the PO did, tell me what you think of it.
He took a ball bearing of the correct size and dropped it in the hole, I guess there is a lip in there somewhere. Then cut part of the bolt off and screwed it back in on top of the ball bearing. I am sure it makes for a nice seal.
If I am wrong and this is the stock setup, please tell me. It looks like it was modified.

Smog Equipment
Since you're taking off all the smog equipment, I'm a poor lady with a 79 spider in California that needs an operating EGR valve. Was hoping the one you are taking off is available?

I knew it! Thank you so much Kathie for your post!
Even though I live in Michigan (no smog tests) I attempt to preach to the crowd about saving that emissions stuff for those who are trying to keep their cars running with the equipment in place.
Your post proves my pleading is accurate!
Good luck with your EGR valve....sorry I cannot help. Let us know when you are successful..

Bringing this back from the dead. Treat me like I'm clueless, because I am. I have all the connections on my "new" carb labeled. I need to replace some hoses, but can I ditch the whole EGR, and those colorful connectors on the side (is that what you are calling the Christmas tree)?
edit: sooo, this thing: do I need it?
and can I take the air pump completely off, what's the deal with that?
