ignition problem

ignition problem

I have a 1975 spider that I an wrecking on. I have been stopped an ignition problem.
i am getting spark from the coil to the cap, bot not for the distributor to the the plugs
so far i have relapsed

the plugs
the leads
the cap
the rotor
the points
the condensers
and the coil

still nothing

if you advise please let me now :? :cry:

Is the wire connected to the points in good condition? Many times they break internally from the movement of the vacuum advance, vibration and years of servicing.

What DieselSpider said. The problem has to be IN the distributor from your description. Power into but not out of the distributor = problem in the distributor.

BTW, I make typing errors all the time as well but got a bid smile from you saying you are "wrecking on" the Spider. I think I've done that once or twice when I intended to work on mine. :D

How did you test this. Did you crank the engine over with the starter and check for spark from the coil??

If so then I would assume the points are working and the distributor shaft is rotating.

I have held a spark plug on the cam cover and had no spark. THen I found the cam covers are not ground. Now I use the hood latch on the firewall to ground the spark plug.

I believe that you have a dual point distributor, one set to start on and the other set after it's gets to temperature - make sure that both are working.
