Need some help on what to do .

Post by Jurgen »

Hello everyone i am new here and just picked up a 76 124 spider . I changed the oil because synblend 5w30 its been seating for about 5 years synblend 5w30 and will do the same thing to the fuel or run it out . I got it running and bleed the cooling system because the fan wouldt kick on . I plan on replaced the plugs because its missing a bit going to replace the shocks and driveshaft center support bearing its loose . I am going to send the radiator out to get the tanks resealed or a new core installed .
Should i use rotella 5w40 in this engine or no ? Its fully synthetic and i am not sure for this old of a engine ?
I am a Mechanic but i am new to this cars so want some tips from you guys .

Thanks

Rotella would be fine as it contains zinc which helps with keeping your valves and valve seats in good shape.

I wouldn't use a synthetic in this car.

The rest of your activities sound good, while replacing the bearing in the driveshaft also replace the Guibo/rubber coupling as it likely needs to be done as well.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I agree with Karl, no synthetic.

They only make the 5-40 in fully synthetic . should i run the 10-30 or 10-40 synthetic blend or or tripple protection 15-40 i think this might be too much ?
With spring coming soon i want to get this spider going .
