fuel door and the box beneath

i want to remove the fuel door hinge, and the box beneath the fuel door. is this possible?

how does the fuel neck come out? from the top?

Mike,
The hinge comes out after it is unbolted from underneath the trunk area. The box is part of the chassis and does not come out. The fuel neck comes out from the top side. Make sure that the rubber hose is disconnected from the tank first. Then there is an oval rubber gasket with metal outer ring that attached to the floor of the driverside wheel well area that seals the neck from the underbody. Unscrew it and try to slowly wiggle the fuel neck out. There is a small dia. plastic overflow tube that must be removed also.

i already have the door off, now i just want the hinge out of the way for a proper paint job in the box.

does the filler neck need to come out first?

If you are going to paint in there... yeup. I think there are a couple of 10 mm that releases the filler tube from the box. It has a bit of a flange on it that sits ontop of the box.But you have to disconect from the tank before pulling the filler and overflow up and out of the box. I thought the hinge is part of the car, but it has been awhile.
