Wanted to check here and see if any of you in the EU could tell me what GPS unit works the best with european roads and especially with driving country to country.
My wife always gets lost driving in Germany and we are also planning some great cross continent trips for the Fiat once it gets over to Germany. I am more of the old school paper map kind of guy because I like to find interesting roads along the way and partly because I dont trust navigation units that much.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. . . some of the models we are looking at are the Garmin nuvi 275T, 770, and 775T. I like the 275T because of the price, but a 3.5" screen seems a bit small to me.
Best GPS unit in Europe
Re: Best GPS unit in Europe
All though I haven't had the opportunity to try them in Europe I have been very happy with all my Garmins in the States.

Re: Best GPS unit in Europe
Hi there,
I live in Germany and have always been happy with the unit built into my BMW (even on trips to France, Austria, Switzerland and Italy) - but many of my friends have the Tom Tom or a uptodate Garmin and are happy with it, too. Actually I think that the devices are rather equal today. if I'd be you I'd more check for intuitive use and speech quality.
Example: I was driving through Hamburg last week, having a MirrorPilot in the hired car (see here)- and I found it not safe to drive while something is blocking my mirror and I have to touch the mirror rather often - even the directions it gave were perfect and I sort of got used to it after two days.
ciao,
Stefan

Re: Best GPS unit in Europe
i 'll go along with mark and stephan , I used to use gps for my proffesion a lot and i slightly prefer tomtom over garmin , nevertheless they are both quite accurate. I found i could almost trust the tomtom with my eyes shut when he tells me to take a turn , you can make that turn , also it was most of the time accurate even on the house numbers

I agree with all of the above, but my son's Tom Tom gets him here every time (from the UK)
