windshield wipers

Post by kuhndg »

Hi everyone! I am new to the site and apologize for not posting pictures of my cars. I have two 1980 FI Spyders. One of them 97% restored, the other is a driver. Neither one has functional wipers. I took apart one of them to find the wiper mech was frozen solid. I have been soaking all the moveable parts in gear oil, and trying to work the parts back and forth to break them free without much luck. Any ideas? I am pretty fired up about this site as I read trough these forums they are very helpfull!

Thanks

Bob

when I've had linkages that are really frozen I've had to knock them apart, soaking just wouldn't remove the corrosion

Bob, good luck getting them freed up. They are frightfully expensive to buy from the usual vendors. If you can't get them to work, drop me a line. I have a salvage source for them.

before you opt to use what little spare parts we have left, giver a go with this procedure:

Thanks for the advise everone. I tried the toilet bowl cleaner with no luck. Sure did clean up the parts nicly although! I actually used the last method before I read the last post. The map gas and oil meathod work well. Thanks for all of your ideas. Bob
