FIAT Spider 1942

Post by Curly »

Seen at a local Vintage and Old Wares Expo in amongst the old tractors, stationary engines and antique agricultural machinery.
Its a Trattore SPA TL37 built by FIAT in 1942, used by the Italian Army in WWII and one of a pair captured by the Australian troops at Tobruk in Nth Africa. It's was returned to OZ and sold off after the war. It's presently undergoing restoration, but it has intriguing engineering - original Right-hand-drive, constant 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering, power take off from the back of the weirdest transfer box I've ever seen incorporating angled, independant drive shafts to each wheel.

Very ineresting piece of machinery.. I like it and would like to give that ol crank a turn or two and start it up.
It's reasoning I would guess of the dual rear drive lines is to keep it going if one side breaks ?? Great pictures also .

Thx LD
