Turtleback air cleaner

Does anyone know the original colour of the turtleback air cleaners as fitted to 124 Spiders? I've seen light grey, satin black and gloss black on various cars. I'm not sure which is correct.

They may all be correct. When I was looking to paint mine I found more in the light grey color than I did in the other colors, which is why I went light grey on mine. The light grey also tied in with the natural aluminum color of the cam covers, the head, the aluminum timing belt cover, the ceramic coated exhaust headers, the waffle intake manifold, and other ancillaries. In the end it might just be personal preference. That is, unless you’re going to have your car judged, in which case you’ll learn from the judge when he takes off five points for having it the wrong color.
