My 79 Spider has developed a new noise. It sounds like loose metal and I can hear it in reverse, 2nd and 3rd gears.
I have to get up to 4-5 mph in reverse to hear it.
I checked fluid, and it was OK, I ordered some GL-1 for a refill.
Any opinions?

hmm, you inspected 100% of the drive shaft, from the end of the transmission to the inside of the rear wheels?
there is nothing wrapped around the driveline anywhere, like a piece of wire or other debris picked up along the road side?
the u-joint and center support bearing all appear in fine shape, and make no noises as you rock them back and forth manually?
the guibo is in fine shape?
the rear differential is full of gear oil?
