Console wiring

Post by HawaiiSpiderman »

So I have the console off my 1979, and I'm going through the nest of wires trying to understand and hopefully reverse PO changes. The car has the harness for electric windows with 2, 8 prong plugs behind rocker switches on each side of radio (but no wires or motors in doors). Also, oddly there is a 2nd Hazard button opposite the cigar lighter in the lower dash under the aftermarket radio. My guess is PO put in a 1980+ lower dash with the hazard button and just left it unconnected. Is there another accessory button or light that should/could go in that spot?

There are 2 wire connectors I am having trouble identifying:

First, a 2 prong plug with light blue wires marked "shifter light" wrapped with the reverse light wires laying next to an egg size hole to the top of the tranny. Can anyone tell me where this should connect? And is there supposed to be a rubber piece to cover that huge hole?

Secondly, in the same wrapping as the shifter wires there is a purple wire crimped to a grey/red wire seemingly going no where but making a loop. However, I can't find a light for the "HEAT/DEF" fan switch. Are these the wires for that light and PO eliminated it by crimping them together?

Thanks to all who chime in. :D

i just had a quick look at the auto trans circuit diagram (get them all from Mirafiori) and the blue/white one is for the auto trans gear selector light. The grey/red is also related to the auto trans and should have been paired with a black/violet. So it appears your car had an auto in it some time in the past.

I think the fas switch is a fiber optic item, same as the heater controls, all the fibres are lit from a bulb just to the right of the ignition switch under the dash.

Thanks dinghyguy. That wouldn't be a surprise since the motor has been rebuilt.

I have to laugh at myself as I was putting the 4th fiber optic plug in a socket that is completely blacked out on the slider body. However, I don't see anywhere to clip the fiber optic behind the Def Fan indicator.

I found and ordered the rubber grommet for that huge hole from AutoRicambri.
