reforming brake line flair

Just put in a new MC and having trouble getting the brake line fittings from leaking. Would like to not have to replace all the lines. I'm thinking of getting a flair kit and try to reform the existing flairs. Has anyone tried to do this.

Really quite easy :wink: you could always just cut and re-flare as well if you have a little slack so as not to put pressure on the line/s

I didn't find it so easy when I tried recently. The Fiat fittings need a "bubble flair" and the flair making tools commonly available don't make that style. I guess there are ways to approximate one but when I tried I had leakage trouble. There is a lot of pressure there - they have to be rather perfect.
Of course one can buy brake line with bubble flairs but not usually with the Fiat thread fittings. Might try finding a shop with the right tools to make your lines for you. Too bad the vendors don't sell individual lines rather than the whole set.

I have never been able to make decent bubble brake flares, so I purchased a bunch of Edelmann adapters that go from the Italian brake fitting to a standard US 3/16 inverted flare fitting. Then you can buy brake lines, fittings, make flares, etc, all day long until you can get everything to fit. The part number is 271330. Easily available on-line or lots of auto parts stores.
