Steering Groan (from oil filled idler)

Post by spate75fiat124 »

Have developed a "groan" in the oil filled steering idler. No surprise it was dry. If I add oil, do I just fill it up or is there some special trick? Guidance appreciated.

One option is to replace it with a ball bearing idler.

I filled mine up in-place until I can find the time to pull it and do it right. It still groans and creaks even a week later even though I did pull the valve body and fill the chambers between the paddles below. It will probably need to be pulled, disassembled and cleaned before refilling on the bench.
