I'm putting new pads and calipers on the front of my car. The books I have show two springs, a "flat radial spring to secure caliper" and a pad spring. Neither of my caliper/caliper bracket assemblies had these two springs. The wire loop that goes under the caliper and acts as a spring when I put in the locking block is the only thing on my car. The brakes have always acted very good until lately when the pads had worn down to the replacement point. My question is: are these springs supposed to be there, or is this another change Fiat made that didn't get into the manuals relating to the later models?
Thanks gang,
Ron

Re: Brake question.
the springs are supposed to be there. probably left out by the PO. Without them, the pads will rattle, causing a distinct "click" when the brakes are applied, and a real annoying squeaking

Re: Brake question.
If you're needing some of those springs, I probably have some I could send you. All you have to do is cry "Uncle" and admit the early cars are better than your 82.

Re: Brake question.
You're right Mark, my car has had that annoying squeek since I got it on tight right hand turns. So I do need springs.
OK Denise, I'll go this far: Your car is nicer than an '82. That's as good as I can do without my nose growing longer.
I'll take you up on the offer, I'll call you for details. Thanks a bunch.

No Ron...Dont cave in over a couple of springs!!! We all know Denise's car is the best in the country ,but as the founding father of the '82 Club' we never expected you to admit it. My bubble has been busted and I'm headed to ebay to shop for an early model!
Craig p.s. my springs are missing too!

Too late. When I called her though, I refused to get on my knees and grovel! And I do have to admit, I wouldn't kick her car out of the garage for having crackers on the floorboards, to paraphrase an old saying.
Another similarity between us Craig. Some kind of strange connection we have I think.

Re: Brake question.
I should have said were missing,I replaced them when I did the brakes about 6months ago.Thank you anyway ,though. I will save my consession on the early models until we swap cars and I get to drive yours! Maybe Thurs. at FFO? I took a ride today over Blood Mtn. and back, which is our version of 'tail of the dragon'.Same road(US 129),where every sport bike from Atl. comes to test their cajones.I drove my car HARD,among the Ducatis and Hyabusas. What a blast!! I had my Fiat sideways on several occasions,in 1st gear coming out of hairpins. The cars performance was outstanding.I feel early or late model, bumper or no bumper, injected or carb'd...these are great cars and we are lucky to get to enjoy them!!

Re: Brake question.
Very true! Last month, a small group of local guys went on a drive. We hit som eback roads I usded to ride in my motorcycle days. A good buddy of mine was along for the drive. I scared teh hell outof him! He has never been around small cars, or even sports cars. Screamin into turns, downshifting, just to hammer it 1/2 wa though the turns! Scared him to death. But now he calls me and asks when we are doin it again!

That one got me grinning Jeremy! The picture I get is your friend cleaning his underwear, thinking, "MAN, I gotta do that again!"
