Wheel won't turn

Post by ralphcap »

I'm in the process of completing a brake job. Finished the passenger side. Now, wheel won't turn. Do the two fixing bolts that secure caliper support bracket require split washers? What could be preventing the wheel from turning?

Could it be the ignition wheel lock?

I fell for that on mine and just had to put the key in to release the steering wheel lock

You can't steer or the wheel won't spin? Front or rear brakes?

Many times a locked wheel can be the results of a jammed piston in the caliper or a rubber brake hose that is collapsing internally and acting like a one way valve. Did you have to force the caliper back on over the rotor?

The passenger side wheel has been completely reassembled except for the tire. It doesn't turn. The drivers side only has the rotor and plate on it. it turns. I rebuilt the calipers and installed new pads. Everything is tight on the passenger side. Should those bolts have split washers on them? Front brakes.

Just found the answer to my washer question. Mid-west Bayless sells the bolts for the caliper support bracket and their detail on the bolt says "must use separate lock washer" I'll install the washers tomorrow and see if it makes a difference on my "frozen" wheel.

gotta have washers under those bolts, otherwise the bolt contacts the rotor

Thanks Mark. Thought those washers were on the bolts when I removed them a month ago! Retired desk jockey was wondering why those locking washer were laying around after I reassembled everything .
