Hand Brake Cable Question

Trying to reinstalling the hand brake cable onto the rear calipers I just rebuilt. Passenger side went on fine but the driver side cable does not want to hook up. It looks like the sleeve that protects the cable is not allowing enough of the cable to feed through it, preventing me from receiving enough slack to seat the cable. Any suggestion on how to proceed





When I was removing this cable the first time, it was much more difficult to remove than the passenger side so I'm thinking either the cable is rusted to the sleeve or their wasn't enough slack created when the cable was originally installed.

You should be able to freely move the cable relative to the outer sheath. If it doesn't move freely you'll end up with a dragging brake, premature wear etc.

That looks like it has seen better times... A new cable is what, $18?
It looks like it's out of its holder.

Time to say goodbye to that cable. A nice clean new one is a bargain at less than $20.

I've recently rebuilt my rear calipers and to refit the cable it was necessary to completely undo the adjustment fittings at the Y-piece yoke in the centre of the car. Once that's undone there's enough slack in the cable to attach it to the levers on the remaining caliper. Then you can refit the yoke to the central cable and readjust the tension.

That cable is not in the drivers side anchor bracket, the divers side retainer is failing and its seized by the look of things so it really needs replacing. Yes you do have to loosen the adjustment yoke to reattach the cable to the calipers and need to loosen the adjuster and reset it when ever you change the rear brake pads.
