Re: Removal of smog pump pulley? 75, 124, 1.8
Just the pulley off the pump, or the bracket off the engine, or the pump off the bracket? I tried to remove the pump from the bracket and the bolt is too long to just slide out. I tried to go at the bolt that holds the bracket to the engine block, and that thing is ON, haven't tried my big breaker bar yet, so I'm not giving up.

i am confused, which happens often. just ask my wife or any one of my four daughters. the only girl in the house that relates directly to me is my grand daughter.
smog pump pulley
and
exhaust cam pulley
are two different pulleys
Like danno, i hear you describing the long bolt on the smog pump, but your detail suggests otherwise.

Sorry, only I ever know what I am talking about
I have removed the smog pump from my Fiat. On the exhaust camshaft there are two pulleys, one pulley for the timing belt, and one pulley thar used to drive the smog pump that I removed. There is a bolt that goes through both pulleys and into the camshaft. I can't seem to keep the the camshaft from spinning and I'm hoping that someone here can help. so I can take the extra pulley off. If I even can remove the extra pulley.
Thanks,
Steve

Hey Steve, what'd you do with Sreve? We miss him already! I mean, you're OK, but how many Sreve's are there?

I may be wrong, but I think that you may find that those 'two' pulleys are really just one pulley with 2 sections. Unless you have a single pulley available, you may not want to take that one off.
To remove without an impact wrench, I've wrapped an old timing belt around the pulley, like you would a strap wrench, and anchored the other end of the old belt around the other pulley. Do the same thing in reverse to torque to the recommended 60 ft-lbs or so.

right alvon.
you can replace that double pulley with a single pulley. lotsa guys have 'em laying around.
when you find one.... borrow a chain wrench or buy a rubber strap wrench from your favorite AMERICAN MADE Tool Distributor. That strap wrench will hold the pulley and the cam still while you yank on that bolt

Thanks guys, but now that I know how to do it I will need another pulley. The torture never stops.
This weekend's projects; replace timing belt cover, reinstall radiator and all other items removed to replace timing belt. drill and tap exhaust manifold to plug the hole formerly used Air Injection System, reinstall heater core, all of the stuff for HVAC, and rewire console and all of the switches.

Alvon,
Thank you very much for the kind and fair priced offer, but I'm going to have to decline at this time.
Thanks for all of you help.
