Its time for a new carb, the stock one just wont do anymore.
I have a few questions though.
is this the right carb?

Is that an okay price?
and the electric choke, how/where do I hook that up. my stock carb has the water choke.

32/36 DFEV is a good carburetor, but if you want a direct replacement then you need a 32 or 34 ADF. 34 being the preffered carburetor since it is almost devoid of emissions control junk and is quite a bit larger. ADF has water choke, DFEV has electric. Personally I'd use a 34 ADF on an 1800cc intake manifold for the 1975-1980 Spiders and DFEV for the 1966-1974 Spiders. On all of them I'd use that 1800 manifold, it flows well and has big ports compared to the others.
If you choose the DFEV you can expect to have to modify the accelerator linkage somewhat. You pull the +12v from the solenoid lead on your old carb. You have block out the water choke lines, either connect them together or you'll have to block it at the manifold and replace the metal line from the water pump under the exhaust.

connecting the two choke water lines together gives you a good spot to bleed the cooling system, the linkage mod required is minimal
Re: Buying a 32/36 DFEV
I don't need a direct replacement, I'm just looking for the best possible carb for my 79 fiat 2000. Linkage modification is no problem. I was just concerned about how the electric choke worked.
So that +12v lead that thats connected to the solenoid on my 28/32 adha, that will work for the choke? So does it switch off/on when the car gets to operating temperature?

Re: Buying a 32/36 DFEV
the solenoid wire is hot anytime the key is on, and the choke needs that or else it would close with a hot engine. We put on lots of the 32/36 dfev and they work very well
Re: Buying a 32/36 DFEV
Alright, thanks, that clears things up. Just purchased one on ebay. Now I just need to find a 1800 intake manifold.

Does this carb come with ports for vent and return, like the OEM?So Cal Mark wrote: We put on lots of the 32/36 dfev and they work very well

Bernie
I've been wondering this myself. My 32/36 (installed by PO) is piped straight through with no return, as in tank-to-mechanical pump-to-filter-to-carb, with no return. The old return line is just sitting there unused. I think the 32/36 just have the inlet, no return. Since my car runs ok, I've deduced that the pump must be ok with this (I've read that this called a "bellows" pump), which keeps the pressure from building up and blowing the line apart.
I'm not sure about a vent...

Re: Buying a 32/36 DFEV
I just replaced my intake to an 1800 and put this very carb on my 79 Fiat... It is a fun project, but lots of little things to concern yourself with... Emissions crap, Exhaust port on front of engine for EGR stuff... and on and on...
One thing to consider is that the DFEV does not come with a Carb spacer, so be prepared to go out and find a 3/4-1" spacer or find shorter M8-1.25 studs to hold that carb down to the manifold...
Also, the linkage will not hook up directly, so you will need to get a carb ball for the DFEV. I got mine through Pierce manifolds and the part number was 45034.064.
Oh, and those linkage retainer clips like to fly... Mike Bouse was right about them!!

Re: Buying a 32/36 DFEV
i went without the spacer, since there was room for the flutterby in the 1800 intake. made a gasket out of cork.
gave me enough room for a 2 inch 'performance' air breather on top.
