Rear brake line tee question.

Post by garion »

Hi all. Quick question. I just installed new braided brake lines and a new rear brake tee. As I go to bleed the system, I notice that I'm leaking at the tee. Does the braided rubber line require a copper washer? It looks like one was already on there, do I need another?

its been a while since i installed mine. Do you remember if the thread was straight or tapered. If it is straight, you will need a copper washer.

I just got done taking it all apart and back together..

Looking at the T, all the entrances are tapered.. I took off the copper washer, and replaced it with a new thick one (see one of my old threads..).. I then cleaned up the threads with a tap and dye on the tee and the lines... Put it all back together... Just finished bleeding, and it looks like its holding now.. Not quite sure what it was, but at least I noticed before I drove it..

All I need now is to put on wheels, take it off the jack and go for a test drive... Gonna rest an hour first though... *whew*.. Its cool, but muggy out here in Phoenix.

if you're using old copper washers, you need to heat them up with a blow torch and then dowse in cold water to soften up. after that you install them.
with new ones you generally just need to tighten it properly.

In this case, the line came with a copper washer on it, so it was new.. I ended up replacing it with another new one... No idea why it leaked..
