That throws a monkey wrench into your plans. Before you put it back on make sure if those spring perches need any reinforcing.

Has anyone replaced the front seal with the pinion shaft in place? So maybe I don't have to completely disassemble the differential?

My understanding is count the turns on the pinion nut on removal and put it back in the same place, if I can't replace the collapsible spacer (crush washer?) sound right?

You don't have to disassemble the differential if the pinion seal is causing your leak. This may help:

In the end, I couldn't find a seal, even though I thought I had one around. So, I stuck the spare rear end under there. Good news is, after a rip around the block, not a drop under the car. Bad news, on deceleration this rear end makes a faint whirring sound that was not present with the other. At least it will get me to work tomorrow and Csaba, I'll be in touch!

Thanks! It's an early 90's Saab color called Berel Green. I painted it in 1993 when I was just learning. Needs a redo at this point.

The work schedule has been insane, 84 hours last week... But I did get a new seal and hopefully can swap the old rear end with a new seal back in over the weekend.

Sorry, I didn't mention that it took a couple days while I was working 15 hours a day and not checking on the cars.
I miss my therapy and will work on both cars this weekend!!
