I need a rebuild kit for my 28/32 adha
I need a rebuild kit for my 28/32 adha
Can someone tell me where I can get a rebuild kit for my weber 28/32 adha?
I'm also removing whatever is left of the emission control system. Previous owner looks like he may have started.
Any tips on what I should leave? its a 1979 Spider 2000

Re: I need a rebuild kit for my 28/32 adha
the usual Fiat vendors should all have carb kits, IAP, Vicks, Bruce's and Pierce. Also any Weber dealers. But if you can remove all of the emission equipment, why not upgrade the carb to a 32/36? The performance increase will amaze you.
Re: I need a rebuild kit for my 28/32 adha
yup. determine if you need to pass emission testing. if not, consider a swap of the intake manifold and get a NEW 32/36 Weber.
There are a few guys here that can / will walk you thru that modification....Right guys?

Yeah, I eventually want to get a better intake and carb, but for now most of my money is going to water proofing, floor repairs, new seats and interior.
And no emission testing here in Ohio, so I'm good to go.

you can install the 32/36 carb on your intake without changes. It's not as good as the 1800 manifold but will still offer a good upgrade.
Re: I need a rebuild kit for my 28/32 adha
You can also go to Bayless inc, internationalauto, even ebay has a rebuild kit for this carb available fairly cheap.
I know it has been said, but if you are going through the motions of removing emissions stuff, I would seriously consider just getting a new/fresh rebuilt 32/36 carb instead of plugging the million and fifty abandoned vacuum ports that may or may not cause issues with the emissions garb... Let's face it, the carb on the '79 sucks... pun is intended. I have had nothing but problems with mine... and taking your valuable time to rebuild a carb may be a good learning experience, it is like putting a bandaid on a broken collarbone.
One thing is for certain, everyone on this forum is awesome when it comes to helping out... so if you dare undterake a rebuild and have questions... you are in good hands here!
Good Luck!

Re: I need a rebuild kit for my 28/32 adha
minor correction required.
the new 32/36 Weber DOES NOT have all the vacuum ports and connections that the stock 28/32 has, so there will be some plugging and abandoning of connections to consider. it is not a direct swap.
a standard carb rebuild will not replace any worn mechanical parts, only gaskets and diaphrams.
the supply of used 1800 intake manifolds is more than adequate, and their expense is minimal. Swapping the also restrictive 2 litre manifold for the 1800 will thorougly enhance your driving pleasure, as you will be able to take FULL advantage of the new 32/36 carburetor; and eject all of the restrictive emissions equipment.

Re: I need a rebuild kit for my 28/32 adha
Well I cleaned up my 28/32 adha and plugged all of the emissions ports. Also had to slightly repair the diaphragm that opens the second barrel, (it wasn't opening). Then I removed all of the emission stuff under the hood and plugged all of those ports.
And wow. I don't have a seat in my car currently, but it idled and revved smoother, and the revs built up much faster. It sounded completely different. I cant wait to get my floors fixed and a seat back in it, It will probably be more fun with both barrels working.
So with my straight exhaust, no cat, and no emission control 28/32 weber, whats a guess on my current HP?

Re: I need a rebuild kit for my 28/32 adha
There is emission testing in parts of Ohio, maybe not the area your in. BTW, not to be off topic, what part of Ohio are you in. Im in Columbus.
Re: I need a rebuild kit for my 28/32 adha
Mark, do you really think that is a good guess? Weren't the 79-80 carb'd rated at 82 with all that crap on it? i don't think he'll get that big of a gain with keeping that carb and that intake, and that head..... I'd say he'd be lucky to attain the rated 82 hp.
just my guess.... which is what you asked for.

Re: I need a rebuild kit for my 28/32 adha
i think that is more appropriate.
If you want some performance gains, you are gonna hafta shed some of that stock equipment, starting with the 28/32 Weber. The HP rating in your owner's manual was a pie-in-the-sky out-and-out lie. Next, pitch that dual plane manifold and all of the emissions equipment attached to it. third, the exhaust needs to be addressed. then, you can start to feel improvements.
of course, changing out that head will do a world of good as well. can you spell port and polish?
Any poorly operating carburetor will show marked improvements when it has been rebuilt. But, all you've done is fix leaks.
