Squeak in rear quarter

1979 Spider: A Squeak coming from the vicinity of the passenger side rear shock absorber or quarterpanel. When I acclerate I hear a temporary squeak, then let off the gas and it squeaks again, like two peaces of metal rubbing against each other. The accel/decel creates torque in the unibody, so this must have something to do with a weld somewhere, but it could have somnething to do with the suspension... I replaced all suspension items and bearings last summer. Anybody got a good guess? My next step will be to get my wife to drive up and down the street while I use a stethoscope....

check the panhard rod mount. i have seen the spot welds on this area fail, it is in the pass rear

I once had a problem with a upper shock mount being loose.

OK. This is embarassing. The squeak was coming from the main pivot point in the convertible top. The point where it attaches to the body. False alarm. A squirt of WD-40 made the squeak go away.
