Oil Filter Change

Post by Hobo »

I am preparing to change my oil and oil filter. Please tell me there is access to change the oil filter. It appears that the spoiler and gaurd have to be removed to access the oil filter. Also just wanted to verify that the oil filter hex plug is 12 mm. :?:

Yes, if the splash shield is still present, then you need to remove it to get to the filter. Don't forget to fill the new filter with oil before installing it.
Yes, the drain plug is a 12mm allen, but you can buy replacements that take a 17mm box wrench.

Thanks. It always amazing when you think you are going to do something simple and it turns out to have several layers of details that should be considered.

Sadly I have no idea. I have been looking at that photo for a couple days now and I can only come up with, a rock? No other damage in that area, seems really weird to me

That is a odd injury.I almost had to be road debris, since if you hit something that tall,it would have damaged the oil pan badly. It sits a lot lower that the filter!I have never had the guard on mine, either. Here is a great filter comparison for our cars ,done by baltobernie.Since reading it ,I have been using the Italian 'Clean' filter sold by IAP.
