AUTO ITALIA 2011 Down Under

Post by Curly »

Auto Italia is the largest Italian car show/gathering in Australia and it's held annually in the nation's capital, Canberra. To say that it was was enormous, is an understatement. There were cars, bikes and scooters for all over Oz. Invitees included exotic marques (Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, De Tomaso etc.) as well as a wide range of Lancias, Alfas and Fiats. Canberra is so picturesque at this time of year and the weather was absoutely perfect. Huge crowds took advantage of the autumnal sunshine to visit the exhibition so there were heaps of people wanting to have a chat about our particular passion.
Here's a few snaps from my camera.

Drop-dead gorgeous Fiat Dino Spider took home the trophy for top Fiat convertible.

Reds and yellows predominate.

Some of the smaller family members.

124 Coupes were and still are very popular in Oz.

Plenty of X1/9s to admire.

A very nice original 1980 Limited Edition 124 Spider.

Another couple of very tidy Spiders.

Great pics Curly. What a line-up with the nice weather and all. Was the show one or two days? seems alot of cars for a one day unless you get the lead out.
Notice some are still LHD, any issues with the licencing board wanting the car changed over or can you leave them left hand?

Auto Italia is just a one-day event Chris, but plenty of people make the effort to be there.
Left-Hand-Drive vehicles (over 25 years of age) are allowed to be registered in most states. However, new cars must be Right-Hand-Drive.

Western Australia now allows 'new' LHD cars to be registered and driven on WA roads without modification. They used to have to have a huge sticker on the rear saying 'CAUTION: LEFT HAND DRIVE' but no longer.

Wow, what a great turnout! Enjoyed your Trip Report, too. Glad the weather cooperated.

Perthling, can you get me some of those stickers with "CAUTION: ONE HAND DRIVE" that I can slap on the back of the got-dang cell phone-weilding soccer-mom SUVs around here
