Good to see you back. I missed all the questions and progress photos.
Thank you. Great to be back. I missed working in the cars and posting to the forum... need to hurry up before the next trip (to India)...

I need to move some stuff around in the garage to put a table to layout the parts as I continue to take the engine apart. Plan is to have it all apart by Thursday.

A few more photos... down to the block, pistons, and crankshaft.

Quick note - if there is something you would like me to photograph from this process please let me know. Most of the photos are just for reference when putting it all back...

Head is out:

When you guys talk about zero deck the block... those are very tight tolerances... I have not measured the difference... but that looks like less that a .5mm difference...

I will disassemble the head tomorrow...

That is all for tonight...

Thank you Red. I have been reading and learning a lot. Like I have said before... I can turn a wrench, replace a part... follow a set of instructions from a book... does not make me a mechanic...

To understand the reasoning behind it, to know the combinations that improves the performance, or the troubleshooting needed to solve an issue... well, that is another thing...

Listening and reading Randy's (BEEK) comments/suggestions; Mark's, reading from Guy Croft (http://www.guy-croft.com/) site, and many other members here provides so much wealth of information (and sometimes even a headache  ). So much to learn and understand. Image

putting the head on a flat surface with the cams installed can lead to bent valves. I'd suggest you make some head stands to raise it up

Jamie, I use a work-mate screw type table. Thing is wonderful when you are setting up the clearances/shimming or even taking the head apart.

in pic #2, it appears the #2 intake cam lobe is going flat. But, it could just be the angle in the photo

I snapped a few more photos to share. Build will be with a different set of cams. But would be interesting to understand what causes a lobe to go flat? Poor lubrication? I also took a few photos of the tappet plates of that side...

Also took the time to better position the block on the engine stand to have access to the covers in the back.
