I too love my lockwire pliers, they are such a clever and neat thing to use. All oil drain plugs are supposed to be lock wired on competition vehicles over here, but I also use lockwire on the wingnuts of Weber DCOE carbs and some brake components just to be on the safe side.
The WORST tool in the workshop would have to be those useless Easyout reverse-threaded broken bolt removers. I've yet to actually have any success with them and in fact they make things doubly difficult when they snap off inside the hole you've just drilled. To make matters worse I even have 2 sets of the little buggers.

Re: What's in your tool collection?
I thought I had all the tools I ever needed ,,because I have a number of wrenchs and sockets that are metric that I use on my 82 Toyota Truck but this fiat has got me going to Sears already Twice. Once for a 12 MM allen wrench to change the oil and then back again to buy a full set of Metric allen wrenches to take my seats out .But other than that ..nicktheviking wrote:I'm bulking up my tool supply now that I actually have a car I can work on, looking for ideas--I hate having to stop in the middle of a repair to go to Sears.

I get a lot of use out of my little stool on wheels (adjustable) and a Creeper.

Humm...After working in the mechanical trades for 45 yrs. it's hard to say. I find stuff now and then I forgot I had. I know my 1200sq.ft. home shop is too full to get around in. Retiring in 3 1/2 months. Hope to get things in better order then. ... J.D.

Actually he is a Gunsmith as well and we do have the most ultimate set of tools and equipment to make the ones we don't have. Now I just need to get a lift in my garage like the last one and I will be set.

It's nice to be able to make a specialty tool when the job requires it. Here's one I made especially for the distributor bolt:

1986 Bertone X19 (Blue)
1978 124 Spider Lemons racer

Ever changing count of parts cars....It's a disease!

A set of huge torches
Plasma cutter
5hp 30 gal compressor
MIG welder
drill press
10 ton bench press
porta power set
18" band saw
Spot welder
Tommy knocker kit
Monkey on a stick
Lots of body tools
2 huge rolling tool boxes full of hand tools
large co2 tank for plasma cutter

The only bad thing is, I am in the process of moving to TX and that's a lot of heavy stuff to move
