Parking brake cable springs?

Post by bobplyler »

I just replaced the parking brake cable on my 79 spider. There were some springs from where the cable is attached to the chassis to where the cable attaches to the bracket that the parking brake handle activates. Anyone know what this does? One of the springs was scraping on the driveshaft, and I didn't re-attach them. The parking brake seems to work fine without them.

The spring on the handle pivot is a new one to me. I only have the 2 springs that connect the Y bracket to the chassis. They put tension on the cable when the handle is pulled up, and also to return the cable to home position when the handle is released so your brake wont drag.

That's the one(s). The parking brake seems to work find without them. And one was dragging on the driveshaft.

Never mind. It was happening because the car was on jackstands, and the axle was all the way at the end of its motion.

I know the parking brake cable can have issues with the exhaust if not properly set up. However, I've not seen the springs come in contact with the drive shaft unbless the drive shaft is off a little or being worked on. Does the drive shaft move significantly if you push up on it while on jack stands?
