Windshield Wipers Won't Park

Post by Foster48x »

What causes the windshield wipers not to park? I rebuilt the wiper linkage and motor last year and they still stop where ever they're at on the windshield when turned off. Is it a relay (electrical) issue or a problem with the motor contacts? I've seen the issue posted before but without a definitive solution. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Rick

The gear inside of the wiper motor has a cam that causes the wipers to park. It opens a set of contacts and the motor stops. Check to make sure all the conectors going to the motor have good conections. Inside the wiper gear box if the contacts have grease on them they may not break the curent flow. If so clean them with contact cleaner and see if that helps.

Good luck!

Thanks Bob. I'll clean up the contacts to see if that helps.

Sometime the contacts are broken...

Well here's a update on my wiper fix.

I took the motor apart and cleaned all of the contacts. I also disconnected the intermittent relay underneath the dash on the passenger side. Bad news... I still can't get the wipers to automatically park. The good news... They run really fast now and they don't randomly turn on and off during operation.

There has to be something electrical or mechanical that's failing to keep them from parking. I just can't figure out what it is so I'm going to leave it be for now.
