oil, vapor separator

Post by Dspider »

I have the manifold off and noticed that the oil/ vapor separator is open. Should I plug it or leave it open? I'm running a 32/36 Weber with all the vacuum lines plugged.
Thanks ,

Do not plug it, you will have oil being pushed out all the oil seals.

You have a few options, for the vapor hose.
You can hook the hose up to the air filter element and let the carb suck in the vapors like it was set up originaly. This method will produce the least vapors/smell in the cabin.
You can let the hose dangle down and any vapor or oil mist will hopefully pass under the chassis.
You can install a small air filter like a crankcase breather element and leave it in the engine bay.
You can install an oil catch can on the end of the hose.

The best ideas are routing it to the air cleaner/carb, or the oil catch can. If the oil mist is prevelant, everything in the engine bay on that side will eventually be covered with a light mist of oil and then a heavy coating of grime/dust. If the oil satruates the starter brushes the starter will start to turn over much slower.

Thanks Matt,
sounds like the easiest and best way to fix it is to hook up the hose to the air filter. I appreciate the suggestions.
