brake trouble please advise
Re: brake trouble please advise
I just want to get on with the fun stuff repairs i think. and driving this bad ass ride. Fixing stuff yourself is majorly fullfilling and fun. but if i cant fix it after a month the yippee fun wears off on that issue at least. Body work. and replacing interior parts never hit a month long gridlock. ill keep you posted.

Re: brake trouble please advise
Come on! Let me have a go at it... I promise I will not break anything!84pininfarinablack wrote:I just posted this in the automotive section on craigslist.. Ill bet i get some good offers ill share the results.
I have a 1984 Fiat Spider. I need a mechanic to install 4 shocks (have them already) timing belt. (have already)
and bleed my brakes. I installed new master cylinder. rebuilt caliper. Front left bleeds but i cannot get the front right to bleed after hours of pumping.. Im sick of pumping the brakes i need professional help. I tried Advance auto pump / motive pressure bleeder. I did not bench bleed the Master cylinder prior to installation and theres gotta be air bubbles in there. I was all motivated to do it myself but 4 weekends of brakes and no luck and im done for a while need some help. Glad to pay to have it done. Please email me any offers or quote if you can. Would like it done this week.
Drive Safe!

Re: brake trouble please advise
Before investing any more time, effort, or money, I would remove the hard line at the master cylinder, and remove it at the caliper. Put a lenth of hose that fits tightly over the end at the master cylinder. Place a jar at the other end. Blow into the hose and see if fluid comes out at the caliper end. You may have a blockage or kink in the line. The lines are steel and rust from the inside out.
If fluid does not come out when you push the pedal, then it will never come out regardless of what newfangled contraption is used.

I like that theory .. it did bleed properly on the old caliper.. I didnt have much reason to think it got clogged.. but i did alot of twisting on the rubber brake hose / metal brake line connection at the front right caliper..
maybe the twisting created a bind. ? it wasnt a full or half twist.. but im sure it was stressing my tinkering.
wachuko I would love to have you help me with it. But i cant get it to your house with no brakes. Im a good 30 minute drive from you and I would not want to make you live my hellish nightmare plus driving time. .. lol Im working in my driveway with a factory stock jack. I do have the tools but im still waiting on a brake line in the mail with extra flare bolts that may or may not be needed depending on if i replace the whole line. . I have the brake line, the flaring tool , and one more flare bolt i saved from the brake line you gave me. If your near Winter Park call me. Ill do the work you give directions. You wont even get dirty. Ill donate some assistant time for you on your car when you need me. After reading the last post now its got me thinking about replacing that whole line. that would have to be it i would think. There are two holes in the master cylinder right next to each other.. one runs front right the other front left.. front left is getting fluid bleed no problem. It leaks out on its own no pumping required. Front right not one drop.. the are same height.. same position basicly on the master cylinder. If an air pocket was there I couldnt imagine it just affecting one of them. regardless of angle of position of the car.
AM I correct to say that when i get the fronts working and then move onto the backs.. working / opening the backs wont put air back into the fronts? it says they are independent.. I hope that is correct.

Hip it to the Central California Coast and Ill help you out. I would suggest as was already said. Remove metal line at master and at caliper and blow compressed air through there. If that is ok then take off rubber hose at caliper and blow air through there, if that is ok check banjo bolt with compressed air. If you are getting fluid to banjo bolt then your problem may be a stuck caliper piston or a bad bleed screw. Removing the bleed screw completely and if you have fluid flow then thats your problem, the bleeder. If no fluid at banjo bolt then you can bleed the master while its still on the car. Better with 2 people with one pumping and one cracking the metal line loose at the master as the brake pedal is depressed, holding the pedal down tighten and then repump the pedal down and crack the line again. Keep repeating till you get fluid out and no air. Then you will have to do the same at the caliper bleed screw

Re: brake trouble please advise
im going to replace that whole line.. I probably need an extra flare bolt or two..
Re: brake trouble please advise
I found a flare bolt company for fiats..
i ordered a few of them.. are these the right ones ? I matched up what i could with the fiat edelman converter specs.
these look like the originals and are cheap and new .. hope they are right size.
http://store.fedhillusa.com/search.aspx?find=fiat
10mm x 1.25 Course thread, male steel nut with non-threaded lead, 19mm long
SAE flare (45 degree inverted/double) or DIN flare (bubble/ISO)
Sometimes found on ABS units and vintage Fiats.
Use with 3/16" brake tubing

Funny story. I was told I had a brake line coming from British Columbia that was coming with two cans of installation fluid. I asked myself what installation fluid was but figured he meant brake fluid. Or some kind of cleaner for pretreating brake calipers and master cylinders. So yesterday the box arrives with the brake line (thank you very much) and two 12 oz cans of installation fluid. When first looking at the cans I was pretty sure they were beer cans.. but wasnt sure because it had very odd labeling. It said copper at the bottom. Im like mmmmmm? it said lager... mmmmmm?
Im thinking is this beer. ? then i kept reading all the canadian stuff and was pretty sure it was some kind of installation fluid. Never seen these words on beer.. sounded very industrial. I put the two cans in a box along with the brake line to send it to the shop so the mechanics have the brake line.. and installation fluid. I get home from work last night and found the note that came with the fluid and brake line.. It said to get one to wachuko and use it to help install the brakes.. then at that moment I got it .... it had a 5 hour build up to the punchline. This must of been one of the stupidest moments of my entire life.. He sent me Beer... ha thank you so much that was cool . now i gotta pray my mechanic doesnt drink them.
thanks alot man i got a good laugh off of that. Canadians call it installation fluid... I love that.
