brake pads

Post by zachmac »

Is there a difference between the front and rear brake pads on a 1980 Spider. I know all the vendors use a different part number for each but are the two sets actually any different?

You might be able to use the half worn fronts on the back, but the rears are about half as thick. On my '72 I'm running front calipers and pads on the rear. You are supposed to get more rear braking, but it's recommended to add an adjustable proportioning valve to keep them from locking up. I'm also using a manual brake set up without a booster. I haven't got to use the car enough to get the bugs out and evaluate it's braking, (new house, car projects are on hold)!

My bad  I meant NO they are not the same. I realize that a NO answer to my original question would mean they were the same! :D in addition to the clear difference in thickness the rears also have a little locating tab on the back side that goes into the piston groove. Again, thanks to mark for keeping me straight.
