Brake light staying on

My brake lights have been staying on all the time since I repaired the hole in my firewall. The brakes themselves aren't dragging, the light just stays on and in order to get them to go off, I need to stick my foot under the pedal and pull it up and hold it there. And when doing so, it only travels an extra 1mm so the pedal is coming practically all the way up, but somehow it's still triggering the light to come on.

Any ideas?

The brake light switch, located above the gas pedal, is adjustable. With the brake pedal in its normal rest position, screw the switch in until the button gets depressed by the tab coming off the brake linkage and the light will go off.

Thanks for the quick response Ron, I got under the dash and found the switch but it is a b**** to turn. I've only managed to get it about 1/6 of a rotation and how knows if it was the right way..

Any tips to make life easier? I'd rather not remove the pedal box

Because it's plastic it's probably going to be stuck from being in one position for so many years. You could try spraying the threads with WD40. You need to thread it clockwise looking at it from the rear (where the wires connect). This should screw it into the bracket, moving the button closer to the tab on the brake linkage.
I don't know if there's going to be an easy way. It's either adjust the switch, or bend some metal somewhere to get the button depressed when the brake pedal is up.

Alright, I got it now. I had it wrong. The nut is captive, you're supposed to rotate the actual switch . That made things a lot simpler
