Any bad experiences with CD30s?

Post by Redline »

I've been considering a set of CD30s (original or reproductions) for my BC Coupe, which for now sits on stock 5x13 steel wheels. On a German forum I read a lengthy opinion piece that the low offset of the CD30s (ET7 I believe) over-stresses the wheel bearings and shock towers and may also ruin the steering feel.

Any opinions?

I ran original sets on both of my Spiders over many many years and miles and never had a problem. I'm not sure how much heavier the reproduction ones are, but the originals were extremely light. In my opinion, the best wheel ever for the 124 based cars - light weight, great offset, stunning looks. If the selection of 13" tires today was similar to 15-20 years ago I'd still have them on my Spider.

CD30s are what I want for my X19. Heck, I'd even swap my Carroll Shelby wheels for a set of those.

I run an original set of the original magnesium Abarth-stamped CD-30s and have never had an issue. These are the same wheels used on the Abarth Rally version of the Spider.

They are ultra-light (around 8.5 lbs) compared with the later aluminum reproductions.
