Roof help please

Post by Martin595 »

Hi All
This is my first post here and I was hoping some of you could help me with my project. I have a CS1 which I have been building up and I have a few questions about the roof.

I have bought a new top for it and worked out that it should have cables which were missing on my car. What I need to know is what the cables attach to. I think one end attaches to the front rail via a circular metal button however I'm not fully sure as there is also tab of metal bent over which I'm not sure what to do with. I also don't know where on the roof frame the cable attaches to, I'm guessing it comes out near the back quarter window but don't know much more.

Also I've looked at a couple of on line guides which mention having to pop rivet something, could anyone explain what that is as I'm lost as to what this could be.

Do you glue the back rail to the top (the back rail hold the back of the top down)?

I'm a little lost with the canvas cover which attaches via 3 screws to the bottom rail of the window frame. Does this tuck into the inner wheel arch between the body and the plastic wheel arch liner? My confusion here is what does it do?

hello, and welcome to the site. please stop by the introductions section and tell us more about you and your Spider.

there should be no glue on the back end.

i have some great pictures and an excellent step by step write up written by Jenny Obert. if you email me to the address in my signature, i'd be very happy to reply with a copy of these files.

Mike's instructions will explain all, it's not a difficult job. Take your time and be deliberate and you'll have no problem at all.

Just make sure that you dont pop-rivet the McPherson knuckle too tight or the spanner rod wont protract across the rear vinyl membrane consistantly. Other than that, you should be good.

Could someone tell me when riveting the roof to the frame to the rear of the frame does the rubber go on top of the canvas material of the top?

And when riveting the front of the roof to the frame does the rubber go under the canvas material of the top?

And how many rivets do you use for each fixing. The guide I have does not show this clearly and neither does any on line guide.

Do the cables run inside the entire length of the top? My cables exit the top at the rear 1/4 window and are exposed right back to their anchor point.

Thanks,

Adam
