I ,like many here, have had to deal with broken studs when removing exhaust, brake bleeders ect. this has worked most of the time, but on occasion have had to resort to the drill and extract and heli-coil. I believe a number here have used this as well, but a few pics might help. The exhaust manifold, thought I did well, only one broke.
Put a nut over the hole
fill the nut up with weld, making sure you have attatched the stud to the nut... long wire to start i guess
Nut is filled, heat has suposedly helped break the stud away from the manifold threds.
Don't wait too long, should still be hot. work the nut back and forth carefully,a heavy amount of torque right off the bat can twist it off without the stud.
If we're lucky .....success
I'd think some penitrating fluid before hand would increase the chance of success, but I was told the material should be clean for the weld to stick properly.
Hope this helps
Chris

Re: broken stud weld
Great idea. I usually use screw extractors that sometimes break inside and are impossible to drill.
What chassis is the exhaust manifold sitting on?

Well Done, Chris! I think I should just bring my car to your shop and have you work on it!

Re: broken stud weld
Thanks, It has always worked on the manifolds and most of the time on the brakes.
(home building buis. has been good around here)

Re: broken stud weld
So now how are you going to get the broken stud unwelded from that fine looking nut?

Ken used to have a mg, so I can't think of anything better to do to those nuts.
