When I push on the brake peddle as the car is running, I do not get much braking unless I really push the brake peddle to the floor. It sounds like air is being released from the cylinder that the brake piston in going in to through the fire wall. I am not losing brake fluid and am concerned this may be a big expensive problem.
The other thing it is doing is when I am idling and press the break 1/2 way down, the hissing begins and the car idles down to almost a stall. I just scratch my head.
Any ideas for me of what I am looking at?
Thanks,
Rich

Sounds like a leaking vacuum hose at the brake booster.

Re: No Brake Pressure with Hissing Noise - 1980 Spider
the pedal shouldn't go to the floor even if the booster is bad
Re: No Brake Pressure with Hissing Noise - 1980 Spider
That sounds like the problem.
The pedal does not go all the way to the flloor.
Is that a tough fix? Any direction you can give me on how to go about that would be great.
Thanks
How hard is it to replace a vacume hose?

A leaking vacuum hose will cause a high, hard pedal

Re: No Brake Pressure with Hissing Noise - 1980 Spider
we're talking vacuum hose here, so find some black rubber replacement hose... hot water (coolant) hose will work just fine.
two hose clamps, one at the intake manifold, and one at the check valve on the brake booster.
easy..peasy

brake booster hose is reinforced to prevent collapse under high vacuum. Heater hose should not be used as a replacement
