1800 head on a 2L - parts compatibility

Post by HawaiianSpider »

Hi all,
I have a rebuilt 1800 head that I am planning on dropping into my 2L engine. However, all I have is the 1800 head, not the cams and misc. parts. Will my 2L cams/cam boxes fit on the 1800 head? Or do I need to acquire 1800 parts?

Thanks,
Mike

how's the project coming along? It got complicated with a broken bolt as I recall :(

When removing my old intake one of the head bolts stripped. The same hole had been “helicoiled” before and there wasn’t enough metal left to repair easily. So I figured to do it right, I would purchase a rebuilt head. My local shop wanted more than IAP and Bayless doesn’t offer rebuilt heads, so I went with IAP. I have been waiting for months and they would keep telling me that it’s in the machine shop and they will ship it when complete. Today, I was reading some posts about the 1800 head and how I could get an increase in compression on the 2L engine. So I called IAP and asked if they could ship me an 1800 head instead of the 2L head. They said no problem and that they have 2 rebuilt heads in stock. Hopefully, I will receive the head in the next week or so. Then I can work on putting together my 32ADF, single-plane manifold and your header – YEAH!

Oh, I wish you would have contacted me about a head. Waiting for months is a bummer. I could have done one for you

Bummer Mark! I didn't think you did heads. I have seen your experimental work on your web site... but it never crossed my mind to ask. I wish I lived in SoCal like Tom. Then I could have easier access to your shop :D

So when are you retiring to Hawaii?

Many thanks,
Mike

I'm ready! At least for a visit anyway. My wife has been bugging me to take her over for a couple of years.
Seriously, contact me anytime you need something.

Thanks Mark - will do!
When you decided to make the trip, you will probably want to book during the summer (May - Sept). The winter months can be wet. Give me a heads up when you are ready to make the trip so we can get together and I'll fill you in on some great places to visit while you are on the island.

Question -- Is there any difference between the 1.8 and 2.0 head as far as valve and port sizes ? :? ...J.D.

valves are the same, combustion chamber on the 1.8 is slightly smaller, consensus is that the 2L head flows slightly better, but I don't think there is that much difference really
