Hi All,
Can anyone tell me what size brake lines a '76 Spider has? While replacing the rear disk, I noticed the metal line was cracked right near the rubber hose. I think it's because the connector at the end doesn't spin anymore so it caused the line to twist.
It's only about 2 feet of metal line before it screws into a connector on the axle. So I don't want to pay $100+ for all new lines. I did not find a site that sells the metal lines separately, only in kits. If someone knows of a retailer that sells partial lines, the rest of the question may not be necessary.
So I'm planning on buying a double flaring tool and making my own line. It seems the common sizes are 1/4" with 7/16" fittings or 3/16" with 3/8" fittings. The 1/4" says for foreign cars but I find that a little hard to believe it would be in inches. So I just wanted to confirm with the experts here before purchasing anything!
Thanks!
Brake Line Info?
Re: Brake Line Info?
mark allison can chime in with the exact size of the threads, i think they are 10mm x 1.25
the only way you are paying that kind of price (over $100) would be if you replaced EVERYTHING with a pre-fabricated kit. most of us buy our brake line at the local parts store.
yes, if the rest of the lines are intact, they may last for years, or burst next week.

Re: Brake Line Info?
That's exactly what I thought I should do after finding that the whole kits are over $100 and that they don't sell parts of the kit separately. I'm just not sure what size fittings and line to buy from the parts stores? And on that topic, can anyone recommend a parts store to buy the line and fittings from? There are AutoZones, Advance, and PepBoys by me.
Re: Brake Line Info?
Steel brake lines are available near all stores, including the ones you mention. finding adaptors for the threads we need may be easier than finding lines with the correct connectors....depending on your source(s)
