Temp Guage fogging

Post by dcbatt »

Looking for help as to why my temp guage fogs up. 79 carb'd spider.
If you have the answer why, can you tell me how to fix it?

Thanks,

Can't tell you why, other than it has a buildup of moisture inside the glass.

Don't feel alone, it happens to me frequently. Also, the fuel gauge. They've done this for as long as I can remember.....and I have had the car since 1995.

Mine does too but only when I am driving when it is cool and humid, say below 60 degrees F.

You might be able to dry them out by removing and letting them bake in the sun on a really dry day. I was able to do this with a speedo that had become foggy occasionally.

I have a theory on this. Ever since I replaced the 3 watt bulbs with 5 watt bulbs on all gauges, they tend to fog up more. The glasses are now rather hot to touch so I suspect the right ambient conditions cause the fogging. Interestingly, the clock glass does not fog up as it has the older 3 watt (I assume) bulb because it is a different type. I guess I could go back to the 3 watt bulbs and prove this theory but I like the brighter bulbs at night.
