Hard brake lines

Should I cut these out or should I clean them up and re-use them. I'm going to put braided brake lines on to the wheels. I saw IAP has a universal set new for sale. I want no issues with the brakes when I'm done. I need your expertise with this issue. I don't want any regrets in the end.

make sure you understand that IAP's kit is designed for the two litre cars, and not your 1978 model before you zap on that buy button...

steel brake lines are subject to rusting from the inside out. i am not sure you can postively identify that kind of rust until it is too late. the cost to replace them now entirely verses laying on your back and replacing them one at a time later is worth what to you ??

since you are in this deep of a disassembly, i'd replace with brand new lines, now.

I like the idea to replace the lines now while its easier. Are there brake lines offered for a 1981 124 out there. If so, in case there are different types. Which type should I get.

You may want to call them and ask them if that 6 piece kit for 79-85 cars will work for your 78. There is a disclaimer that states: "some pieces fit 68-78" Off the top of my head I believe there are 6 pieces for a 78.

1 master cylinder to front right caliper
1 master cylinder to front left caliper
1 master cylinder to rear brake compensator valve
1 brake compensator valve to "T" fitting
1 from "T" fitting to rear right caliper
1 from "T" fitting to rear left caliper

I know that 76 models had another configuration as there was an extra valve mounted on the drivers fender by the master cylinder. I think it was some sort of equalizing valve, but not sure.

i believe the threads you need are 10mm x 1.25... check with mark Allison to be sure.

the local parts store will sell you steel thread in various lengths. you just need to ask them for the proper adapter fitting to go from USA threads to the threads we use.

i am betting that after you consider freight, your cost at the local parts store will be less expensive. Don't forget to buy a tubing bender if you dunn already have one.

Sorry guys!
I should have mentioned that I'm putting my engine from the 78 into the body of a 81. My 78 is the later part of the year so the car has a lot of what the newer cars have. I'll count the lines the 81 has. If you know the size of the lines for the 81. It will help. Is IAP the only option I have here. Does Mark sell these items? Is there any type of upgrade for this brake line?

my previous post IS an alternative to the IAP parts. i guess i wasn't clear enough.

your local parts store can supply EVERYTHING you need for this job.
