ADFA Carb solenoid
The solenoid on the side of the CARB what does it do. Is it designed to stop fuel flow if the car is turned off? Or does it no more than that?

Exactly, it prevents running on of the engine after shut down..dieseling. The tip of the solenoid also contains the idle jet. The jet is either a 50 or 55. The simple test to check the functionality of the solenoid is to remove the wire, turn the ignition key to the on position and then reconnect or touch the wire to the spade terminal. If it clicks the solenoid is working.
In mid 78 they changed the solenoid slightly. Earlier versions have 10mm threads with a larger diameter idle jet, later versions have 8mm threads and a smaller diameter idle jet.
