1971 124 Sport Spider

Post by ccallahan »

I have inherited my mother's 1971 124 Sport Spider. She restored it but it has been sitting in storage for many years. I took it to a mechanic to flush fluids so I could drive it a bit and they said the 4th cylinder is not working and needs to be replaced otherwise car is in great condition. Does anyone out there know what the value of this car would be (only 82,000 miles) and if dropping the $2,000 they quoted me to fix it would be worth it should I want to sell it down the road. Thanks for any input.

my first car was a 71 fiat 124 spider. if all else is well its worth fixing. if more was wrong it would still be worth fixing.

I agree with Rey. I've got a 71 and 72 in decent shape and both are worth over $2k. Did the mechanic tell you what was wrong with #4 cylinder? If it's a bit seized, maybe Mark's trick of adding atf to that cylinder will free it up.

I would expect for 2K that they are going to rebuild the engine. Can they tell you what is wrong that is causing #4 not to fire? If not, I'd get another opinion
