New Memeber from Texas
New Memeber from Texas
Hi Y'all
(actually I am a transplanted Bostonian!)
Living in Texas affords me the opportunity to drive my 1978 Fiat Spider year round!! Well, the summer is a bit hot unless you drive real fast!!
I bought my Spider from my father-in-law back in the '80's. I finally got it on the road and now I am trying to get it into mint condition.
Hope nobody minds "uninformed" questions because I sure will need all the advise I can get!!

Welcome to the forum! It is customary to post some pix of your ride. There are no uniformed questions. Feel free to fire away. You can also utilize the search function to save time -- whatever it is, it's probably been discussed here at some point in the past.

Welcome aboard Jim. This is a great source for information. It's such a popular site that questions usually get answered very quickly, and almost every one of us has to come here to tap into the collective knowledge at times. Bring on the questions, bring on the pictures.

right they are Jim!
we have all the answers.... some are even correct we tend to charge a little more for answers that help solve issues, but not always.
my wife would also love to drive her '78 year round, but that is difficult here in Michigan. so, we just do what we can do.
Love that phrase, just drive faster!! i highly recommend that.
enjoy the site. we look forward to lending whatever we can in the way of assistance.

I think we have a connection, sort of!! My wife is from Ann Arbor, born and raised! Got my Spider from her dad and drove it from Ann Arbor to Boston.
and yeah, I'll pay a little more for correct answers!!!

As soon as I can figure our how to upload them I'll send them. Even though the car only has 30,000 miles on it it sure does not look as good as the Spiders here!! Man, I have a lot of work to do! So much to do, so little talent!!

Welcome Jim! Hope you were far enough south not to get slammed with that ice storm.

so THAT was the noise i heard a while back! Betcha drove right past my house on I-69.
next time, try not to slam the door as you leave. and, when you stop by the in-laws for a visit, look me up.
Re: New Memeber from Texas
Welcome, Jim! Wow, only 30K miles, that's pretty low mileage. What year is your spider?

It's a 1978 Spider!
I will post pictures this weekend. Car has always been in the family and never modified. But the color scheme is unual (at least to me!) Red body, Black top, beige seats and interior panels and red carpet. Ahhh...those Italians and their sense of style!!

Re: New Memeber from Texas
hmm... i bet lunch the top has been replaced sometime along the way. that is too weird of a color scheme to all be original.
Re: New Memeber from Texas
Nope! You owe me lunch!!
It really doesn't look bad but I have been thinking about changing the red carpet (very faded) and installing black carpet. But it sure gets hot down here in the summer!!
I will do pictures tomorrow!
