Re: Tranny lube, again
Me too. I put regular GL4/5 EP gear oil in the diff, but tomorrow I'm going to put this bl%#dy expensive Redline stuff into the tranny. I have researched it and it seems to be in no way a bad idea, and maybe it will be super good. I'll let you know if something bad happens..but of course I won't know if it is due to this oil. There just does not seem to be any non-ep oil around here, so the Redline it is.
Heading off to the Italian car picnic this weekend. I was not going to take my rough looking spider, but I was told there will be other cars there, some held together with tape What a relief! It will be fun to see what shows up, and I'll take some pics.

I remembered this thread existed but forgot to look at it before going to the auto parts store. Looks like what I got will be good in the rear but not in the transmission. But, a quick search did yield the following things:
from Kendall a GL1 that seems to fit the bill. See this link:
http://tds.econocophillips.com/catalogs ... %20Web.pdf
AMSoil lists a 20w-50 synthetic motorcycle oil that they say meets the 90 GL1 specs.
Also found a place that sells GL1 in bulk with a minimum order of 20 metric tons. Someone on this list could order and distribute to the resto of the list...

Re: Tranny lube, again
Flyboy: I ended up last year locating an Amsoil dealer and buying the 20W50 syn. m/c oil. I had just gotten my Spider and it had a grinding going into 2nd, so I wanted to try something to smooth it out. It may be coincedence, but within about 3 weeks the tranny gave up the ghost.
I'm almost sure that the Amsoil was not to fault because they have a great reputation, but until I hear from someone who has had long term success with it, I'm staying with GL1. My new tranny is a Jon Logan (Midwest 124) rebuild, and he suggested I stay with it so that's good enough for me.

Re: Tranny lube, again
I,like Ron, have been through an expensive tranny rebuild. The po had used something in there that wasnt spec! I dont understand why everyone wants to ''experiment' with their tranny.Use the spec gl1 and if you cant find it locally,Vicks sells it for $5.00 a quart. It would be truly expensive to find out that the experimental lubes didnt work out.
