1983 124 Column Switch

Post by EMassengale »

I’m considering replacing my column switch cluster (lights, turn signal and wiper), my question is on the new aftermarket switches there isn’t the rotating switch on top of the column. Does anyone know how the parking lights would work without it? Thanks in advance.

I believe the parking lights are activated by rotating the headlight switch to the first position. The second position activates the headlights. You will not have the ability to select the left or right side parking light. I tried two reproduction switches-one came obviously broken, the second had intermittent turn signal function. I have since discovered that the Fiat switch uses sub-component switches that are also used on some old Alfas, although with slightly different control lever shapes. These components can be swapped out on the Fiat switch, with varying degrees of difficulty. I need the turn signal lever, which is, fortunately, the easiest to swap. But they also share internal components, which can be swapped around, so there are many broken column switches that can be resurrected.
