Thermostat housing gasket

Post by TerryVB »

I need a thermostat housing gasket for a 1980 2000 Spider. The only place I found that carries them is Auto Ricambi and they're out of stock. Would appreciate any info on other sources for the gasket.

Go old school and cut your own.
Gasket material from auto parts place, xacto knife, maybe a ball bearing to punch the holes and Bob's your uncle.

I believe a 1980 Spider does not have the thermostat in the head. It is located in the radiator hoses on the exhaust side of the engine.
I don't think there is a flat paper like gasket for the extension that goes on the head to the coolant "T" I think that uses a rectangle shaped "O" ring seal. The seal goes in the head before the extension is bolted on. Like most "O" rings it depends on compression to make the seal effective.
