Automatic trans Dipstick Seal?

I removed the head today to replace my headgasket and forgot the A/T trans dipstick bracket was bolted to the back of the cam. Heard dripping fluid and the next thing I know is I have a huge red trans fluid puddle! The fluid was only like 2 months old another $20 down the drain. Is this a compression fitting like the engine oil dipstick on the 2L? I felt the end of the dipstick where it enters the trans and felt like RTV. Is there suppose to be some kind of O-ring to seal?

I have the same question! I seem to be getting a bit of leakage around the auto trans dipstick where it meets the transmission. The previous owner simply squirted a bunch of blue RTV years ago which is clearly not the best fix. Is there supposed to be a seal of some sort? If so, I can't seem to find anything on Auto Ricambi or Midwest Bayless. Any advice would be appreciated.

There should be an o ring . I believe the tube has a groove for it to sit in and if you believe the internet, it should be the same as the one used in the larger and more common TH350 transmission.

I can tell you that 80's and 81's have an o-ring, I used an o-ring from an o-ring kit so I can't tell you the size. I was able to remove and install the dip stick tube with everything in the car. Good luck.
