Window Regulator

While I have the doors off and all associated trim (To fix the dreaded upper hinge cracks!), I was thinking this would be a great opportunity to lubricate the window regulator mechanisms. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what type of lube to use and where it would be best placed? Also, if there are any other things I should take care of at the same time, please mention them as well. Thanks.

I would bet white grease on the pulleys and crank would be a good idea.

Yep, white lithium grease is what I use.

You may get better penetration using a thin oil?

anything? mighty deep subject for us. we could go on for days.

are you wanting to lube the regulator because it is grinding, clanking, sticking or something? or just because you think it would be a cool idea? dave's suggestion will help to fix those noises quickly... but i vote for the white lithium grease. in this particular case ... too much is not a good thing.

and remember that at the bottom of the door, there are two 10mm hex head bolts that alter the tension of the cable by raising and lowering the two bottom pulleys in that assembly. if the cable is too loose or too tight, here is where you fix that issue.

The places that really need lubed ( pulleys and pivots ) will probably not get penetrated by lith lube.It works well for gear to teeth and cable slides.

Thanks everybody. The regulators/mechanisms have been working fine but since I had the doors completely off and all of the trim removed, I thought it was an excellent time to do some preventative maintenance. I went the route of the white lithium grease. Thanks again.
