Idle stop solenoid
Hi all just broke the connection to the idle stop solenoid on my Weber carb. Having trouble locating a new one or second hand. Anybody know where I can get one. It’s off a ADF carb from a 1977 1800. Just won’t tick over without it and sounds rough

They have other versions if this isn't the one you're after. Some have 10mm threads, while some are either smaller or larger (I can't remember which).

Thanks Bryan have seen the one I need 8mm thread . At a cost of 250 us delivered. Will have to look elsewhere. Paul

Ouch on the shipping charges.... Where are you located? If in the UK or Europe, how about Spider-Point? http://www.spider-point.com or something like that. They are in Germany as I recall.

If you broke the spade terminal off the solenoid possibly someone with decent electrical solder skills could repair the one you have.Hi all just broke the connection to the idle stop solenoid on my Weber carb.
I would attempt soldering a short wire on to what remains in the solenoid. Then crimp a male push terminal on the other end of the wire to mate with the existing cars wire.

Yes tried that. Was so badly corroded just would no take. Thanks for the thought Now got replacement from Texas

They used those solenoids back in the 70's due to the emission controls causing the engines to "diesel" on after shutting off the ignition. If you're like me and removed all that stuff to make the car run as it should, you won't need that part.

Do the cars idle with the solenoid disconnected or removed? I thought the default for the idle stop solenoid was "off", so if you turned off the ignition switch or the wire got disconnected to the solenoid, the car would not idle. It would only idle with +12V on the solenoid.
Or can the solenoid be removed entirely and replaced with a fixed idle jet?

Mine's a 74 and doesn't have any electrical wiring or device to the two-barrel Weber carburetor, and yes, it idles and has never "run on". I'm going by memory of cars back in the late 70's where they devised all kinds of little tricks manufacturers used for the Fords and Chevys to try and get them to run right.
My 81 Chevy has an idle solenoid to increase the idle speed for when using the terribly inefficient R4 type AC compressor. Otherwise it's a simple mechanical stop with an adjustment screw.

You could also snip off the tip of the rod that blocks off the jet and leave the rest intact.
