Relay question

Post by jpaulus53 »

Hi All I have a 1977 spider, non California. I am missing a relay in the relay tray, located behind the glove box. None of the pictures or layouts that I can find on the
Internet look like my layout. The horn works, 4 way flashers work, the car starts and runs fine. I have attached a picture of the tray. The missing relay is in slot 1. Thanks in advance for any help.

Possibly the "fasten seat belts/remove key" buzzer, or the delay relay for this? The former has a brown/white wire and a white/black wire, while the latter has a bunch of wires mostly light blue, violet, dark blue, some with stripes of other colors.

Note that you can't post images directly to this site. You have to upload to Imgur, GooglePhotos, SmugMug or the like, and post the link to those.

According to the wiring diagram I have for 1977 spiders, the delay relay has wires that are light blue/white (2 of them), violet/white, dark blue/red (2 of them), white/black, and black/violet.

I Have uploaded to Imgur and Google drive. Neither seems to work, but if you right click on the icon and "open in new window"
the image will display

A diagram of relay locations is not the most reliable for identifying relay functions. The color of the wires in the relay socket is a better indication of the relays function. Over the years the relay sockets positions could have been moved during maintenance.
The relay #4 in the photo has wire colors that identify it as the horn relay.
I cant tell for sure the other relay socket colors. If you post the colors of the wires on the empty relay socket someone might be able to identify its function.
The delay timer has a metal case very similar to the relay cases. However it is not interchangeable with with a relay. The base of the tier will not have the relay terminal numbers. It has 4 terminals labeled C,C1,+ and - Where t he relay terminals are 30, 87,87A, 85,86.
Hope this helps
